The Rev. Tomi Jacobs-Ziobro was selected on December 11 by votes in both Higganum and Haddam United Church of Christ (UCC) congregations to serve as settled Pastor for both churches.  Rev. Tomi (pronounced “Tommy”) has a quite interesting background, having served not only with the United Church of Christ and with Lutheran, Reformed and Presbyterian churches throughout New York as well as in the Protestant Campus Ministry at Syracuse University.

In her ministerial profile, Rev. Jacobs-Ziobro shared that “my communication with God happens in still, quiet moments of prayer and meditation as well as through the voice and actions of the faithful gathered for worship or action.  I hear God speaking to and through the community—when we are like minded and when we are of different opinions—this shapes my ministry.”

Rev. Tomi grew up in Southern California and went to college in Washington state.  Her husband, James (“Jim”) Ziobro is also an ordained minister, grew up in Connecticut and formerly served a church in Danielson, CT. More recently, Jim has had a seasonal position with the Cape Cod national Seashore.  Both Tomi and Jim love the outdoors, especially the shore, and seafood (her favorites are oysters) and enjoy canoeing, and bird watching, particularly viewing ospreys and eagles.

Tomi and Jim are the proud parents of 8 grown children (4 each) and 2 grandchildren.  Their children currently live in New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Minnesota, Illinois and Kentucky.

Rev. Tomi’s first services will be on Sunday, January 15, 2017.  The service at the Higganum Congregational Church will be at 9:00 a.m.  The service at the First Congregational Church of Haddam will follow at 10:30 a.m.   All are cordially invited to come and to hear Rev. Tomi Jabobs-Ziobro at her first service.
