Our Shared Transitional Ministry

What an exciting time for our church!   Beginning  November 15, the First Congregational Church of Haddam and Higganum Congregational Church will begin a shared transitional ministry.

Our meetings with representatives of the Higganum Congregational Church have been productive and exciting, with both churches looking forward to working together on various shared ministries. Many thanks to Pastor Doug for his effort in researching a covenant that reflects the needs that both churches share and his flexibility and willingness to help make this shared pastorate happen. Thanks also to Sue Craffey, Kristin Battistoni, Nancy Thody, and John Anderson , members of the joint FCCH/HCC working committee as well as to Steve Bull and Mike Battistoni for their contract work.

What does a shared transitional ministry mean?

Both churches remain independent of each other. The pastorate costs are shared on an equal basis between the churches, with Pastor Doug preaching at two Sunday morning worship services and dedicating two days per week to each church. Church service times will alternate through the course of the year. If sharing an interim pastor goes well, it is the hope of both churches that a short term result will be a combined settled pastor search effort.
