Supporting the HK Backpack Program

With Haddam Elementary School closing, the HCC Backpack Program which served HES, will now be joining forces with the HK Backpack Program (HKBP).  HKBP has been serving the Regional District 17 school system since 2015.  Amber Stamm, a Killingworth resident, organizes the program which “ensures children in need have balanced, nutritious food they need to learn and grow.  Children at risk of weekend hunger receive a [backpack] bag of food that is child-friendly, nutritious, nonperishable, and easy to prepare/eat.”

This year HKBP will service Killingworth Elementary School, Burr Elementary School, the Haddam Killingworth Intermediate School, and the Haddam Killingworth Middle School, as well as some referrals from Youth & Family Services at the high school.

HCC and FCCH will be supporting this program by taking a monthly collection of one or two food items.

2019 Collection Schedule

September – Cereal and shelf-stable milk

October – Soups and stews

November – Canned vegetables and fruit/fruit cups

December – Canned meats (chicken, beef, ham)

Cash and gift cards are always welcome!  Simply use the envelope in the pews and mark it for the HK Backpack Program.  Also, you can easily shop for the program on Amazon at THIS LINK , and the food will go directly to the program.
