Debbie Livingston, a resident of Haddam and member of our FCCH family, was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer, IBC, in 2009. After radiation and chemotherapy treatments, she was considered NED (No Evidence of Disease.) In 2012, the cancer returned as lesions on her lungs. In 2015, more evidence of the disease was found in her liver. After several unsuccessful chemotherapy treatments, Debbie is currently on chemotherapy infusions every Monday, which she will continue indefinitely. This treatment frequently leaves her feeling like she has the flu with severe bone and muscle pains and extreme fatigue.
At this time, Debbie’s immediate needs include rides to her chemotherapy sessions in Wethersfield on Mondays, and dinners for her husband and son on the days she feels poorly, usually Thursday and Friday. If you would like to help in either of these areas, please contact the church office.
Debbie is so grateful for the outpouring of support from her friends, family, church, and community. Her son and husband surround her with love and provide her with much joy and happiness. Even though her family lives over an hour away, they have been by her side throughout her cancer battle, coming down on Mondays to bring her to her treatments. Debbie loves her church family and is grateful for all the wonderful members who have reached out to her during this difficult time. “Attending church [the First Congregational Church of Haddam] on Sundays brings a lot of comfort to me. Just being in the church gives me a feeling of calmness and support.”
Debbie is an extremely creative, passionate and loving mother, friend, and member of the Haddam community. On January 29th, the Christian Education Committee is holding a Pasta Dinner Benefit Fundraiser to help support Debbie and her family. Tickets can be purchased from the church office or at the door. Please call 860-345-2742 to reserve tickets or for information on how to send in a donation.
